The next good step for Peter Obi after loss at tribunal

The next step of action for Peter Obi

Whether he has a good vision for the country or not, nobody can say at this moment. But what’s clear is that Peter Obi doesn’t immediately have a chance to become the president using the judiciary.

The judiciary is transparent and honest in how it handled the matter that Peter Obi brought before it. The court said that Obi’s case lacked merit and the tribunal consequently dismissed it.

The Labour Party candidate himself must have foreseen what was to come. He shunned the court though his counsel appeared for the delivery of the verdict. Definitely, he wouldn’t have felt disappointed. He knew that he stood no chance to use the court to unseat a president.

The common thing Nigerian politicians do after a verdict like that is to approach the supreme court. It’s not difficult to see the desperation in them. But it will be a futile endeavor and a waste of resources and time for Peter Obi to press the case further. A layman knows that his argument is frivolous and lacks intelligence.

What he is supposed to do now is to start preparing for the 2027 presidential election. Interestingly, the incumbent president, Bola Tinubu, had less than 40% of the total votes cast in the February election. That means 6 out of 10 Nigerians didn’t want Tinubu.

The ball is now in Peter Obi’s court. He can cash in on the maladministration and misgovernment of Bola Tinubu to prepare himself for the next poll.

The president has made some hasty decisions within the first 100 days in office. He removed the subsidy on petroleum and millions of Nigerians are groaning in pains as a result of that. The ex Anambra State governor can present himself as the better alternative to the current leadership.
