FCT minister Nyesom Wike threatened fire and brimstone after his inauguration as minister. He said he would step on toes as he moves to sanitize the federal capital territory.
He said he would demolish houses and send street or roadside business owners to their homes. He has made real his threat by impounding at least 500 motorcycles within the capital territory.
The impounded motorcycles are being used for commercial purposes in the FCT. According to the Sahara Reporters, the seizing of the motorcycles took place at Kpaduma II, Asokoro Extension, Galadimawa near Primary School, Gudu market, Kabusa junction, and Apo mechanic were all searched.
The commissioner of police for the FCT, Garba Haruna said that the step showed that the ban okada (motorcycles) is still in place and in effect.
FCT residents are aware that motorcycles had been banned from entering the Federal Capital City since 2006, crushing of the okada is to show a signal that the city centre is not an area for them to operate.
“There are designated areas for them to operate, that is the suburbs of FCT, so the recalcitrant type will learn from this exercise. We don’t want to see any motorcycle in the city centre.”
