Nyesom Wike dares PDP, Atiku and others
The mild drama in the People’s Democratic Party may not be close to the end. The ex Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has dared and challenged the party, its presidential candidate Abubakar Atiku and others.
Crisis started in the party when the ex governor failed to secure the ticket of the political party for the 2023 presidential election. Mr. Nyesom Wike has been at opposition with his own party since that time. He openly worked against the PDP in the general elections and divided the party by bringing four more governors with himself that time.
Atiku Abubakar lost the election, partly due to the internal wrangling led by Nyesom Wike and the other governors. Analysts have called for punishments for the ex governor, who is now a member of Bola Tinubu’s cabinet. But Wike said that nobody in the party dared suspend him.
He went on to pick up an appointment. Bola Tinubu appointed him as the FCT minister, and Wike knows full well that the APC is in power, and as a result he ought not to have anything to do with the party. He got the job and he still boastfully said that he couldn’t be suspended.
The peak of it is the nomination of Nyesom Wike to the All Progressives Congress campaign organisation in Bayelsa State. The APC looks forward to pocketing the tiny oil rich state in the off season gubernatorial election. He is to work with other stalwarts of the party in Bayelsa State.
While talking to Channels Television in an interview, Wike said that he didn’t violate any constitution of the party. He sent on to accuse Abubakar Atiku fo not recognizing the zoning formula in the party’s constitution. Hence, he announced that the party should rather punish the ex vice president and his followers.
Nyesom Wike said, “Who will discipline me?” adding, “I should be the one calling for the discipline of these people who violated the party’s constitution, in the way that the party supported rotation.”
Boastful Wike further said that his state produced a lot for the PDP in the last general elections. The party recorded massive success in the polls. He cleared, “How can anybody talk about expelling me? A state that brought a governor? A state that brought three senators? A state that produced 32 House of Assembly members? A state that produced 11 out of 13 House of Representatives.”
