Sit-at-home in Lagos: Ekpa taking his madness beyond normal

Mr. Simon Ekpa, one of the forces behind the sit-at-home orders of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has called for a sit-at-home in Lagos State.

The spokesperson of the proscribed group was reportedly arrested in Finland few days to the 2023 general elections. He has since been released by the Finnish police.

The IPOB has forced the Igbo business people and traders to shut their shops and businesses on the sit-at-home orders. Now he has called for similar things to happen in the commercial centre of the country.

Simon Ekpa and his IPOB should know that their territory and domain don’t cover Lagos State. In fact the people in southeastern region comply with the orders because of threat to their lives and properties. Such can’t happen in Lagos state.

The issue of Lagos being a no man’s land has drawn more bitterness between the Igbo and host Yoruba people in the southwest region. The order of the IPOB leader would rather cause more problems for the Igbo traders and people in the state.

Mr. Simon Ekpa ought to understand very well that if there would be any sit-at-home order, it can only be at the five southeastern states and perhaps neighboring Delta and Cross River.

Whenever the order is in place, there would be empty streets, schools, shops, banks, markets, parks, etc. In fact, government officials remain indoors during the period. Isn’t that a madness?

The IPOB is asking for establishment of the Biafra Republic. But its mode of achieving this is to harass, humiliate and threaten the would-be members of the illusionary republic. Mr. Simon Ekpa and the group have displayed their madness.

Now calling for such an order in Lagos state knowing full well that it’s unrealistic is a madness taken too far. Mr. Simon Ekpa said he wanted to use the sit-at-home order to cripple the economy of the state.

He didn’t consider the fact that if Igbo shut their shops and sit at home, their businesses would rather cripple.

Without providing evidence, Mr. Simon Ekpa alleged that the shops of the Igbo traders were targeted in Lagos State. He therefore wanted the businesses to be moved to the eastern region.
