Liverpool, football enthusiasts love to see, is back

Only three points separate Liverpool from the top four spot. Making it to the next UEFA Champions League would be an enough victory for the Reds whose season has been fraught with injuries and lots of losses in all competitions.

Jurgen Klopp saw his side struggling alongside Chelsea at the middle of the table. There have been calls for him to either step down or the club management show him the exit. Despite reinforcing the teams with new signings, Liverpool still performed poorly.

However, with a two nil victory over Newcastle United, Liverpool started finding and creeping towards the top of the English Premier League table. The club also saw off Wolves in the league to further boost the chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, at least.

The Sunday’s encounter between the two arch rivals: Manchester United and Liverpool at the latter’s home shows that the Reds that football lovers want to always see is back. It was an emphatic win over the reigning Carabao cup champions.

Manchester United under Eric Ten Hag has been phenomenal this season. They beat Newcastle United last Sunday at the Wembley Stadium in the Carabao Cup final. They also came from behind to beat West Ham United in the English FA Cup in the midweek game.

But Liverpool, the hosts, humbled Manchester United. The Reds unscrewed the Red Devils in the 7-goal thriller of the English Premier League. Mo Salah, the Egyptian, Darwin Nunez, a Uruguayan, and January signing Cody Gakpo scored a brace each.

Roberto Firminho, who leaves the club at the end of the current season scored the last goal in the 88th minute. Manchester United conceded only one goal in the first half of the encounter. But the hosts went on a rampage in the second half with the six goals.

Continentally, Liverpool is the most successful club in England. It has won 67 trophies as against Manchester United’s 68. Liverpool has won five UEFA Champions League to make it a darling in the continental competition.

But for some months now, Liverpool has been poor in their games. Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Luiz Dias, Diogo Jota, etc are either performing below average or nursing injuries. The resurgence of the Reds has become more obvious. The emphatic win over Manchester United isn’t a fluke.
