Tension builds in Oyo ahead of guber poll
Tension is building up in Oyo State as the general elections are approaching. Polls in the state have always been full of tension, violence and irregularities.
Candidates of the major political parties have been levelling accusations and pointing fingers at each other. Oyo State elections are not a child’s play.
Mr. Teslim Folarin, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress has dropped a bombshell. He talked in a debate organised by Splash FM, Ibadan. It involved other candidates including Governor Seyi Makinde.
Mr. Folarin said that if Mr. Lamidi, who is popularly known as “Auxiliary” attempts to cause trouble in the election, the PMS manager would be “taken away”.
Auxiliary is the Park Management System manager in Oyo State. Makinde has proscribed the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). He put the PMS in place.
But the park manager has become notorious in Oyo State, most especially in Ibadan, the capital of the state. He has his own convoy and he leads his team to terrorise parts of the city.
Critics have accused Governor Seyi Makinde of hobnobbing the park manager and his excesses. In several fora, the governor has defended or shied away from talking about Auxiliary.
Folarin has suspected that the governor and the PDP would unleash the park manager and his boys on the opposition party in Oyo State.
The senator representing Oyo central senatorial district, Folarin, accused Makinde of appointing an ex convict of heading the park management system.
Mr. Mukaila Lamidi (Auxiliary) was convicted and sentenced to six years imprisonment for conspiracy to murder. Mr. Lamidi and two other persons faced trial over the death of some persons that took place at the popular Iwo Road roundabout.
The governor replied, “The person calling someone an ex-convict…who killed Eleweomo? And where is the file? It is still with me as the governor of Oyo State. It’s a criminal case. I don’t want to bring it up right now.”
