2023 general elections: INEC begins distribution of sensitive materials
The Independent National Electoral Commission has started the distribution of sensitive materials for the 2023 general elections. The electoral body is now working round the clock to ensure that the elections become a success.
The Punch Newspaper reported that the INEC had started the distribution in some southern states including Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Osun State. The 2023 general elections hold on 25 February, 2023.
There have been rumours that the elections may not hold considering the spate of insecurity and violent protests orchestrated by the new naira scarcity.
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he doesn’t have interest in extending his stay in power beyond 2023. He has also committed the electoral commission to the 2023 general elections.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State headquarters of the INEC has received cash from the Central Bank of Nigeria for the purpose of the election. The CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has assured INEC chairman Prof Mahmud Yakoob that there would be cash for the commission.
INEC needs cash for transportation, and other logistics so as to effectively organise the 2023 general elections.
