Top northern leaders who back Bola Tinubu’s ambition
Lots of powerful and top northern leaders are backing the ambition of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress. Even though some northern hardliners are talking about North’s retaining power, several others are jostling and rooting for the ex Lagos state governor.
Mr. Bola Tinubu faces a stiff opposition from a veteran presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, who has invoked the northern spirit. Tinubu will need to break the northern voters before he can get close to the presidential villa.
Among the top northern leaders who are backing the ex Lagos state governor is Mr. Ahmed Lawan. The incumbent president of the Senate has shaken off the feelings of defeat in the primary election. He lost to Tinubu in the APC’s presidential election.
The President of the Senate was in Lagos state for the final rally of the All Progressives Congress and of course Bola Tinubu. He has been consistent in the campaign for the APC flag bearer. And that can bring some votes for Tinubu in Yobe state.
Nasir El-Rufai is also one of those top northern leaders who have decided to shun tribalism and give their maximum support to the APC candidate. The Kaduna state governor used to oppose Tinubu in the past. But since after the primary election, he has aligned himself with the APC candidate.
Nasir El-Rufai has also received so much criticism over his comments on Buhari’s decision on the CBN’s naira redesign. El-Rufai believes the policy is to imped Tinubu’s ambition for the presidency.
Umar Ganduje, the Kano State governor is also one of the top northern leaders. Ganduje has been one of the key supporters of Tinubu. Even before the current electioneering period, Mr. Ganduje has given his loyalty to the ex Lagos state governor.
He is also always on ground for the rallies of the All Progressives Congress and invariably Bola Tinubu. He may deliver Kano State for APC presidential candidate.
Tinubu also enjoys the support of Tanko Yakassai. You can’t highlight top northern leaders without mentioning his name. He was among very first set of people to endorse Tinubu for the job.
