Nasir El-Rufai: who will prosecute president’s ally?
Nasir El-Rufai is one of those who strongly believe in President Muhammadu Buhari. He seems to have this bond with the president that one would think the Kaduna State governor is a son to the president.
He has become an ally of the president perhaps due to political and ethnic affiliation. He does campaign for and throw his weight behind the president on several matters.
All of a sudden, Nasir El-Rufai turns to become a fierce critic of the president. As several top politicians often do, the Kaduna state governor doesn’t veil his criticism against the president.
Muhammadu Buhari has given the maximum support to the new naira policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He has approved the ban on the old naira notes. And he has obviously concluded on that.
The decision, or policy, doesn’t go down well with a vast number of All Progressives Congress stalwarts and members across the country. The list of opponents of the policy includes Nasir El-Rufai, who has never opposed the president openly.
Nasir El-Rufai’s directive to the Kaduna State people to continue spending the old naira notes has generated a reaction from Baba Ahmed Datti. Datti is the running mate of Peter Obi, Labour Party candidate for the presidency.
Mr. Datti said that the counter order of the Kaduna State governor amounts to treason and immunity doesn’t cover that. Datti and Nasir El-Rufai have not had any altercation in the past.
The Labour Party vice presidential candidate supports President Muhammadu Buhari. He calls for prosecution of Nasir El-Rufai, the Kaduna state governor. But who will prosecute president’s ally?
The presidency has not replied El-Rufai, who said the old notes remain legal tenders in the northwest state. The presidential villa must have considered the fact that El-Rufai is an ally of the president.
