Kaduna residents snub El-Rufai’s directive on naira notes
Kaduna residents and people have totally snubbed the directive Mr. Nasir El-Rufai gave to them. The governor had told the people to jettison the instructions or orders of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the president on the old notes.
The CBN and Federal Government have hitherto placed a ban on the acceptability of the old naira notes with no further extension. Mr. Muhammadu Buhari addressed the nation last Thursday over the matter.
But the Kaduna state governor, El-Rufai, has vehemently opposed the president and the CBN. He joined other two APC governors to drag the duo before the Supreme Court. And he has given the Kaduna residents an order to accept the old notes.
The Online Parrot News interviewed some Kaduna residents to know their concern and opinion over the directive of the governor. They claimed that the governor had no power to override the president.
The Kaduna residents said that El-Rufai may be intelligent, but he can’t ask them what to do when the president himself had talked to the country. They however lamented that they still had the old naira notes, on which their businesses depend.
The Kaduna residents further told our correspondent that the old naira may be acceptable in Kaduna state alone, whereas their businesses spread to other states. Hence, there is no wisdom in accepting the old notes when it won’t be useful in other states of the federation.
