How Tinubu Reacted to Supreme Court Ruling
Bola Tinubu reacted to Supreme Court ruling over the old naira notes for 200, 500 and 1,000. The candidate of the All Progressives Congress has been talking tough about how the Federal Government intentionally or otherwise subject Nigerians to hardship.
There have been crises across the country over the policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria which has redesigned the naira notes. The bank has also set a deadline for the acceptability of the old notes in the bank.
Tinubu, who is contesting for the seat of the president said that he saluted the governor’s most especially on the platform of the All Progressives Congress for their courage to drag the apex bank and the Federal Government to the court.
Tinubu talked on the governors “who acted to save our country from avoidable and dangerous political crisis”.
The governors last week had a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, who is apparently determined to executing the policies of the apex bank.
Tinubu agreed that Nigeria isn’t the only country in the world to redesign currencies. But he argued, “those countries give a long time, at least 12 months to effect the currency change. They do not engage in CBN-like fire brigade approach”.
Bola Tinubu had initially claimed that the policy is in place to target him and his bid for the office of the president, Muhammadu Buhari currently occupies.
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress later on asked the Central Bank of Nigeria to ensure that the decision of the Supreme Court is effectively followed. He asked the bank to ensure that sufficient naira notes are available for the public.
The Central Bank of Nigeria has not reacted to the ruling. However, its governor Godwin Emefiele has reportedly gone to the presidential villa to talk with the president over the matter.
