Scarcity: Atiku’s notorious quiet and calmness

Scarcity: the suspecting calm in Atiku’s campaign

The scarcity of fuel and certainly new naira notes has upset Nigerians and forced them to react to the policy negatively. Protesters block roads and set damaged tyres on fire in Ibadan yesterday. But Atiku’s camp is quiet and moving on as if nothing has happened.

The former vice president of the country, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has reacted once to the issue surrounding the naira redesign. He didn’t even see the fuel scarcity as a problem. He just urged the Central Bank of Nigeria to extend the deadline. And the bank did just that.

Nigerians from all walks of life have shown their grievances one way or the other as the scarcity of the two commodities continue to imped the economic activities of the country. Bola Tinubu isn’t an exception.

He has used his campaign rallies in Ogun and Ekiti State to show his own frustration and he believes he’s being targeted by those who should work for his success. He talked tough in Yoruba language in the two states.

What does Atiku’s quiet mean? Is he afraid of talking against or attacking those who are reportedly sabotaging Tinubu’s bid and consequently working for him? The PDP’s candidate has maintained a sealed lip over the development.

Lots of videos showing fights or brawls in the banks or petrol stations have gone viral on the internet. A woman even unclad herself to show how frustrated she was while demanding to withdraw some money from her bank.

Atiku Abubakar and his camp has never warned the government of the catastrophe the crisis can turn out to be. He has travelled to a number of states including Zamfara, Sokoto to deliver his messages to the people.

Tinubu seems to feel the pain the more and his unproven allegations may be true. The Atiku’s camp has unruffled weather. Are there people in government working for him truly?

If there is none, his calmness and quietness portend dangers. It’s criminal to be quiet when the people you want to lead are passing through a hard time. It’s just too difficult for people to withdraw money and buy fuel.

It looks like a calculated effort aimed at a particular goal. Tinubu said that they wanted to impose interim government. Is Atiku part of the plan? Why the quietness? Isn’t it time he lashed out to the government?

If any organization should be extremely vociferous now, it should be the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). At least it aims to take over from the government of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
