How Anambra voters welcomed Tinubu
Yesterday Anambra voters welcomed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate in the forthcoming general elections.
Bola Tinubu has said clearly that his lifelong ambition is to head the Nigerian government. But would have faced some obstacles in the southeastern region of the country.
The basis of the opposition from that part of the country isn’t due to hatred to the personality of the ex Lagos state governor, but because of the participation of Peter Obi in the election, not as a voter, but as a candidate.
Obi is an ex governor of Anambra State, hence he enjoys home support. And on a norm, Tinubu’s rally in that state ought to be scanty with voters and people snubbing the campaign.
Otherwise is the case. In fact, with the pictures that are available on the Bola Tinubu’s verified page on Facebook, the venue of the rally was even not large enough to accommodate the people.
The crowd even stayed in the scorching sun when the canopies provided couldn’t accommodate anymore. They wanted to see and listen to the “city boy” as Tinubu often calls himself.
Note that just last week, a traditional ruler in Anambra State honoured Seyi Tinubu with a chieftaincy title. And the ruler also called Tinubu’s son, Ndigbo son-in-law.
Despite the issue of secession which is bedeviling the southeast geopolitical zone, voters were more than happy and enthusiastic to welcome and identify with the ex Lagos state governor.
Of course, that Anambra voters welcomed Tinubu might not mean much. The undeniable fact is that their open-handed attitude to Bola Tinubu can translate to votes.
Peter Obi himself should be upset with the development. He will he relying on some states including Anambra.
The main significance of the welcoming and participation is that Bola Tinubu stands to get votes in Anambra State.
