Adeleke and Oyetola know fate 27 Jan.

The incumbent Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke and the immediate past governor Adegboyega Oyetola know their fate on Friday, 27 January, 2023.

The former governor had dragged the incumbent, the People’s Democratic Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the electoral tribunal to challenge the results of the 2022 election.

The electoral body, INEC, had announced Mr. Adeleke as the winner of the keenly contested election with a margin of 28,000 votes. He had also been sworn in as the state governor.

But Mr. Oyetola and his All Progressives Congress alleged that there was over voting in more than 700 polling units across the state, which has more than 3,000 units. They both want the tribunal to deduct scores from the units and hitherto declare Oyetola as the winner.

Only last week the two sides made their final submissions through their respective counsel. Oyetola also called on the court to declare Adeleke as unqualified to run for the office considering the loopholes in the credentials which he submitted.

Initially, the electoral court said it had reserved the much anticipated judgement in the suit. It has now fixed Friday, 27 January to deliver the verdict while the state is under an uneasy calm. Both Adeleke and Oyetola have rights to appeal.
