Makinde absent as Atiku visits Ibadan
Oyo State Governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde is conspicuously absent as the PDP’s candidate for the presidential election, Abubakar Atiku visits Ibadan, Oyo State capital. Atiku is rigorously pursuing his bid to rule the country.
Normally, Mr. Seyi Makinde, the state governor ought to warmly welcome the presidential candidate of the party. The rancour and rift in the party wouldn’t let Makinde recognize the presence of Atiku in Ibadan let alone to welcome the ex vice president.
At least five governors of the People’s Democratic Party are at loggerheads with Atiku Abubakar. The crisis started almost immediately after the PDP’s primary election in which one of the five aggrieved governors contested.
Mr. Nyesom Wike, who competed against Atiku Abubakar in the said primary election, has ensured that the five governors oppose Mr. Atiku. The five governors were in Ibadan earlier this month for the commencement of the campaign of Makinde for second term.
When Atiku landed at the Ibadan airport, Mrs Jumoke Akinjide and some other top PDP leaders in the state and in the southwest region were on ground to fill the vacuum of the state governor.
The ambitious politician from Adamawa state paid homage to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Moshood Lekan Balogun at the Olubadan palace.
Atiku posted on his Facebook official page that he appreciated the welcome that the traditional leader and his chief gave him while in the palace.
He later proceeded with his team to the venue of the rally where a mammoth crowd had gathered to receive the presidential candidate.
There is no reaction yet from either the state governor or the mainstream PDP in the state as Atiku visits Ibadan. Makinde has totally distanced himself from Atiku Abubakar. The candidate himself doesn’t talk about Governor Seyi Makinde.
