What Peter Obi doesn’t know about his supporters

Peter Obi doesn’t know some things about his supporters. The Labour Party candidate for the presidential election is not totally aware of the immediate needs or mindsets of his supporters.

Obi is really popular among youths and students, most of whom ought to even decide who becomes the president of the country after Mr. Muhammadu Buhari, the incumbent. The youths have even formed a moment which send jitter down the spines of top echelons in the All Progressives Congress and the People’s Democratic Party.

Peter Obi, who had led southeastern Anambra State in the past, doesn’t know that majority of his supporters would of course work as the adhoc staff for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the poll.

The electoral body has commenced the recruitment exercise for the purpose of the election. The intriguing part of the exercise is that virtually all the applicants are youths or those who can be categorized as youths.

The senior citizens in the country would rather align themselves with either Alhaji Atiku Abubakar or his tougher opponent Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress. They don’t subscribe to the movement built upon Peter Obi.

The Labour Party candidate doesn’t know that his supporters are parts of close to one million staffers the INEC would deploy for the election. The country has roughly 170,000 polling units. Each of them will have st least four adhoc staff.

Peter Obi doesn’t know that one way or the other the his supporters who scatter on all platforms including Twitter and Facebook would rather work for the Independent National Electoral Commission rather than the Labour Party and its candidates next month.

Most of the youths are either unemployed or grossly underemployed. They need some other means for sustenance. And they will rather grab any opportunity to make some thousands of naira. Working for INEC is one sure way to make money. Hence, they will shun voting to become part of the umpire, INEC.
