RCCG’s Politics Directorate: toward what end?

0

The RCCG’s politics directorate surely has so many undertones. It points to a particular goal that is not immediately identified. What would be the end of the directorate in particular?

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has for long distanced itself from politics. The church has not engaged in political interference. Even the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye seldom condemns the government.

But all of a sudden, the church came up with the establishment of Politics Directorate. A letter asked the parishes, areas, zones, provinces and regions to comply with the directive.

There would be directorate across all the churches in the country. This particular step has not been extended to international branches of the church.

This means that the RCCG’s politics directorate targets Nigeria, perhaps for now.

The church was overwhelmed with the emergence of Yemi Osinbajo as the vice president. The church has received so many presidential hopefuls in the past at the its camp.

Now it appears one of its “fold” is eyeing the seat. Therefore, there is a need to act fast and give as much help as it can. The RCCG has millions of members in the country.

Yemi Osinbajo has not made it known to Nigerians. He has not said that he would contest. At the same time, he has not said he wouldn’t. Surely, the handwriting is clear on the wall.

His focus will be to take over from his principal, Muhammadu Buhari. They have been together for almost seven years now. And the RCCG pastor knows the taste of power.

He told a gathering some days ago that he would soon make “his stand known” as far as the next presidential election is concerned. He could have told the gathering that he didn’t have interest in running.

Mr. Dele Momodu, another presidential hopeful in the People’s Democratic Party has reacted. He sternly warned the church against inviting evil.

He said, “As soon as I read the memo establishing a political arm of our Church, I realised this was nothing but an invitation to Armageddon, if true”.

The church has responded to the criticism against the step taken. The church explained that the directorate isn’t to push the presidency of Yemi Osinbajo.

It states that it wants members to show interest in politics and to support such members. Is the church just waking up right now?
