Osun PDP may fail to present a candidate for the Osun State gubernatorial election. The People’s Democratic Party is on the verge of losing the election.
The primary election held in Osun State. And a candidate is supposed to emerge. Unfortunately, the primary was parallel. One held at the Osogbo Stadium and another was at the WOCDIF Event Center.
Mr. Ademola Adeleke claimed victory in the former while Dotun Babayemi emerged as the winner in the latter. The two sides seem to be right in their claim as the PDP candidate.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission can’t recognize more than one gubernatorial candidate. That means either Ademola Adeleke or Dotun Babayemi will fly the flag of the party.
The National Working Committee was fast, it quickly gave the returning certificate to Ademola Adeleke. The event held at the national secretariat of the party. And he was sure he had got it.
Before his celebration started, a high court in Ijebu Ijesa, the headquarters of Obokun Local Government Area, came up with an interlocutory/mandatory injunction. The court restrained the PDP and INEC.
Twenty nine members of the PDP had approached the court. Their prayers included recognizing the primary election that produced Dotun Babayemi.
The court statement has already upset Ademola Adeleke’s camp, and by extension the whole of the PDP. The main gubernatorial election holds in July. And at this moment, the PDP is in quagmire.
The pronouncement of the court won’t go without appeal. The National Working Committee and Ademola Adeleke will appeal the decision of the court. Then, more court orders would be got.
One will remember cases of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers and Zamfara. The All Progressives Congress couldn’t present candidates for elections in those states in 2019. Internal crisis crippled the APC.
Osun State PDP may fail to solve its differences ahead of the July election. As a matter of fact, the chances of the party diminish by days.
