Bola Tinubu’s top mistakes ahead of the primary election of his All Progresives Congress are increasing. The former Lagos State governor doesn’t seem well coordinated.
He has told the multitude of Nigerians that he would like to lead them in 2023. And the former governor, who is also APC national leader, has goofed at least twice. And that can hinder his chances, at least a bit.
He was at the presidential villa very early last month to inform the president, Muhammadu Buhari, officially that he would contest for the seat of the president. And after that meeting, he had made some top mistakes.
The first one is that he said that Nigerian voters would need to do another registration for the Voter’s Card. His argument was that the current one had expired.
Nigerian electorate go to the polling units across the country with their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC). They have been doing this since 2011. But Tinubu argued that the card has expired.
He even said that the Independent National Electoral Commission wouldn’t tell them the truth that the card had expired. This is a very big mistake.
And this forced the electoral body to react immediately by firstly refuting the claim. The body explained that the presidential hopeful, Tinubu erred and misinformed the Nigerian citizens.
Having realised his mistake, the APC presidential hopeful voluntarily apologize to the country people. He said he made a mistake for passing such information to them.
The second mistakes is that he said he would go dirty so as to become the president of the country. He didn’t explain the concept of his own dirtiness. But dirty Nigerian politics involve bloodletting, arson, violence and other electoral issues.
This particular comment has stirred several reactions from across the country. He had to make a U-turn when he realised the gravity of the statement.
Tinubu’s top mistakes since he started the campaign or consultation would affect him. But how they will hamper his struggle isn’t known yet.
