The buildup is real and forces are entering Crimea. But what actually does Russia plan on Ukraine? The threat is real and a breakdown of peace deals is inevitable right now.
Information has it that Russian forces are entering areas held by separatists in Crimea, a part of Ukraine, which came under Russian annexation in 2014.
Russian president Vladimir Putin has not tuned down. He doesn’t want to back down and he is not committed to any dialogue whatsoever. Whereas Kremlin knows the risks in invading Ukraine.
Russia has not said that it wants the whole of Ukraine. The Eastern Europe country used to be a part of the defunct Soviet Union. But Ukraine isn’t the only country that parted ways with Russia.
Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Belarus, Estonia and others used to belong to the collapsed USSR. Russia wouldn’t prefer to take back only Ukraine in that region. Volatile and exposed Afghanistan would have been a good target.
Then, does Russia want negotiation. But with whom or what? The West and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization give their support to Ukraine. They want to protect Ukraine against the belligerent Russia.
Putin’s Russia is under lots of sanctions of the United States of America and the European Union. He may want to have a negotiation and Ukraine can be the best bet on the table. Could that be the reason?
What actually does Russia plan on Ukraine? The objectives aren’t clear. Obviously, the tension is so high and there are indications Russia plans invasion.
Putin and his forces hold tight their cards. The West doesn’t want to go to war at all let alone with Russia.
United States president Joe Biden dropped a bombshell that Russia may attack Ukraine soon. Nobody knows how soon it will be. But what is Russian plan?
