Al Jazeera Is Hamas Mouthpiece – Israeli PM Netanyahu
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Qatari-owned Al Jazeera of being a mouthpiece to the Palestinian Hamas. He made the comment on the heel of a permanent ban on the media company.
On Sunday the cabinet voted unanimously to shut down the company after it had earlier placed a temporary ban on the media organization. It has denied the accusation and insisted that it reports without dilution.
“Al Jazeera reporters harmed Israel’s security and incited against soldiers,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement. “It’s time to remove the Hamas mouthpiece from our country.”
The Qatari media giant often grants interviews to Hamas leaders and it went live when the resistance group invaded Israel on 7 October to the surprise of Israeli and western leaders.
According to Online Parrot News, the company has reacted by issuing a statement and vowing it will “pursue all available legal channels through international legal institutions in its quest to protect both its rights and journalists, as well as the public’s right to information.”
“Israel’s ongoing suppression of the free press, seen as an effort to conceal its actions in the Gaza Strip, stands in contravention of international and humanitarian law,” the network said. “Israel’s direct targeting and killing of journalists, arrests, intimidation and threats will not deter Al Jazeera.”
